What We Do

Created in 2021, SLN CARES is a community outreach program developed in conjunction with our local and regional non-profit partners. We aim to make a positive and lasting impact on the communities we serve, with a focus on engaging employees in meaningful volunteer activities that align with the company’s values and contribute to the betterment of the world we live in. Our goal is to promote community development and welfare, fostering employee engagement and teamwork, and building strong relationships with local organizations and non-profits.

By encouraging employees to donate their time and skills, the program seeks to create a culture of giving back and social responsibility within the company, while making a tangible difference in the lives of individuals and communities.

Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery

Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery is located in Suffolk, VA and is open to pubic visitation every day during daylight hours, including weekends and holidays. The cemetery, which opened its doors in 2004, is a beautiful resting place for military veterans and their spouses. It’s equipped with a headstone area, cremations above and below ground, a memorial walkway and committal shelter for burial services. Every December, the Horton Wreath Society collects donations to purchase enough wreaths to place on each grave site at the cemetery.

The Boys & Girls Club of America offers trained staff who guide, coach, and motivate kids to be successful. Delivering engaging programs focused on academics, health, and leadership while providing safe and fun places for kids to grow and thrive.

The Chas Foundation

The Chas Foundation advocates for mentally ill individuals, strives for public acceptance of those dealing with a mental illness, increases access to effective treatment for the mentally ill and provides support through education for family members dealing with their loved one's mental illness.

Edmarc

Edmarc was established in 1978 as the first hospice in the nation designed specifically for children. Founded in Suffolk, Virginia, Edmarc was initially created as a grassroots effort to care for children in their homes who are facing life-threatening illnesses. Edmarc now provides a multitude of services to kids and families, allowing them to stay together and in a place of familiarity and comfort.

Families of Autistic Children in Tidewater (F.A.C.T.)

The mission of Families of Autistic Children in Tidewater (FACT) is to improve the quality of life for individuals with autism and their families. FACT proudly provides recreational programs designed to enhance the socialization and communication skills of individuals with autism. FACT offers activities that are adaptable for any ability level or age. Our programs are led by knowledgeable, experienced staff and augmented by the participation of non-disabled peers.

FeedMore

Feed More collects, prepares and distributes food in order to bring hunger relief to neighbors in need throughout Central Virginia. Their comprehensive programs and Agency Network are dedicated to providing our neighbors who face hunger nourishment and hope. Feed More is a proud member of Feeding America, Meals on Wheels America and the Federation of Virginia Food Banks.

Foodbank

Since 1981, the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore, a member of Feeding America™ and the Federation of Virginia Food Banks, has been providing food for people experiencing food insecurity throughout Southeastern Virginia and on the Eastern Shore. The Foodbank has distributed over 360 million pounds of food equating to over 300 million meals throughout our 4,745-square-mile service area.

Established in May 1988 to provide emergency shelter to families and children, ForKids has grown to become one of the largest providers of homeless services to families in Virginia. Their team is data driven, trauma-informed and deeply committed to helping families and children thrive. We believe stable housing, a great education and a healthy, diverse community are essential to the welfare of our families.

Love For Our Elders

Since 2013, they've mailed hundreds of thousands of thousands of letters to senior communities, created a storybook of inspiring seniors, and facilitated in-person volunteering events. During the COVID-19 pandemic, they compiled video messages of hope, love, and encouragement, ran education and awareness social media campaigns that reached tens of millions of people, and engaged individuals, classrooms and companies in remote service.

Norfolk SPCA

The Norfolk SPCA treats, rehabilitates and rehomes household companion animals from throughout the Hampton Roads region of Virginia, and operates two veterinary clinics open to the public. One of the nation’s oldest animal welfare organizations, the Norfolk SPCA advocates for animals, offers educational programs, and supports partnerships with other shelters and animal control agencies. The Norfolk SPCA is a non-profit, private organization that relies solely on support from compassionate individuals, local businesses and other organizations.

Operation: Smile

Every three minutes, a child is born with a cleft lip or cleft palate. They estimate that there are millions of children waiting for care in the more than 30 countries. While a cleft surgery can transform a child’s life in as little as 45 minutes, Operation Smile is committed to addressing our patients’ cleft care needs throughout their childhood and adolescence so that they can realize happier and healthier futures. A patient may need the care of many specialists who work as a team to ensure the best long-term outcomes. Their volunteers around the world conduct programs, partner with hospitals, and operate care centers to deliver the ongoing care our patients need and deserve.

The Up Center has served as a safety net for people in crisis for 140 years and a longstanding United Way partner organization.
