Sidney Leon Nusbaum believed in Norfolk before there was much of a Norfolk to believe in.
The son of German Jewish immigrants, Nusbaum literally started his career in the basement. In the early 1890s, he operated a cellar bookstore with his brother on the corner of Granby Street and Brooke Avenue. They were fixtures in the community for years.
